PUBLISHING FOR THE CONTEMPORARY POET
This page is to illustrate some points and applications dicussed in my workshop at the Southern California Writers' Conference. Click the links below to see or hear examples of poetry publication utilizing some current technologies for disseminating verse.

These are rather cobbled-up examples of what I'm talking about, but will hopefully illustrate the possibilities.

eBroadsides
Digital fliers for posting, emailing, pasting into sites and blogs.
Poetry Wallpaper
A nice free download with some pizazz can keep your work and name in front of admirers.
Video Poems
Art piece, trailer, promo, mailer, site bling: the potential for video poetry is just starting to be tapped.
PodCasts
Poetry is a performance art! This is audio publishing. Individual poems can be collected into a single file for sale as an "audio book".
Ringtones
Ringtone Poems are mostly just bravado, but it might be nice to think of your poetry going off in somebody's pocket...and flauntable whenever your own phone rings.
iPod Text Poem
iPod users can download your poetry, upload it to their iPod and read it off the screen. You can actually publish an entire book like this.
Phone App Poem
This is from BuildAnApp. Free, remove ad for $50, publish to Android Market for $45, to iPhone and Apple AppStore for $150. Very easy, line breaks, clean look. Each of these free app sites has it's own strong and weak points.

Several of my video poems. See more under the "Videos" link above. "Engines of Desire" is both a free-standing art piece and a "trailer" for the book. "The Great Man" is also a poem in itself, but also a promotional piece for myself, the artist, and the musician. The others are merely poems.

iPod Poem MISSIONARY POSITION from "Engines of Desire"

Installation instructions:
  1. Download the notes package file
  2. Plug in your ipod.
  3. Make sure "Enable Disk Use" is checked in iTunes
  4. Use a ZIP file utility (like WinZip) to extract the notes into your iPod's Notes directory.
    Tip: Extract the files with their folders intact. In WinZip, just make sure that "Use folder names" is checked in the Extract dialog.
