{"id":1051,"date":"2016-11-21T20:32:31","date_gmt":"2016-11-22T04:32:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/linrobinson.com\/home\/?p=1051"},"modified":"2016-11-21T22:52:32","modified_gmt":"2016-11-22T06:52:32","slug":"not-really-writing-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/linrobinson.com\/home\/not-really-writing-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Rules Don&#8217;t Rule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When I have spoken at writing conferences on bogus writing &#8220;rules&#8221; I get people coming up and emotionally thanking me for telling them they don&#8217;t have to curtail their expression because somebody told them it&#8217;s &#8220;wrong&#8221; to use adverbs or alternatives to &#8220;said&#8221; or &#8220;was&#8221; or passive voice or multiple POV or whatever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Not all that surprising, since most of my talks and articles on that come from people suffering on the internet and my wonderful compassion in trying to help them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here is a series of articles on the subject of not letting fake rules rule your writing, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiesunlimited.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"http:\/\/www.indiesunlimited.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ksbrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Indies-Unlimited-Square-Logo-300dpi-300x300.jpg\" width=\"196\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a>done for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiesunlimited.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indies Unlimited<\/a>. Let me say a word about IU\u2026 it&#8217;s a highly respected site by and for writers who actually write and publish books, not magazine scribblers, teachers, and &#8220;coaches&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 The comments are as worthwhile as the articles and I richly suggest following it to improve your writing and publishing.\u00a0 IU isn&#8217;t just one more blog, and it&#8217;s not an over-rated thing like Writers Digest where magazine hags pretend to be experts on novels and publishing.\u00a0 \u00a0Bookworks listed it in their top\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bookworks.com\/2015\/10\/top-15-blogs-for-indie-authors-part-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\">15 Blogs for Indie Authors<\/a>.\u00a0<em>Publisher\u2019s Weekly<\/em>\u00a0listed it in their top\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/pw\/by-topic\/authors\/pw-select\/article\/60852-six-great-blogs-for-indie-authors.html\" target=\"_blank\">6 Great Blogs for Indie Authors<\/a>.
